Im running two computers side by side, both running Windows 2000 pro and one is on a LAN network. How can i link these two to play games like Quake or Ultimate T. I cant put one on the LAN because of space availability but willing to remove other one for game times. Is it possible to link through my NIC cards? Both are reasonably powerful computers one has a vid card. Any help greatly appreciated...

can't you get a hub and just plug it into the lan then put your other computer on it?

You don't want to get a HUB. get a SWITCH if you don't want to play across your LAN. The other way is to buy or make a CROSSOVER cable and link the computers one on one.
A crossover cable simply connects the Transmit wire to the Receive wires on your NIC (Network Interface Card). A small switch is probably as cheap as you'd get charged for a crossover cable and then if you get the switch and use straight cables, in the future, you can always add more players to the field if you want.
GOOD luck
