Step by step Connecting 2 computers together?

Im buying a new computer and would like to know a step by step on how to connect 2 computers together to transfer 30gigs worth of stuff. Thanks

The easiest is probably to remove the hard drive from the old computer and attach it to the new one instead.

Alternatively, buy a crossover cable from a computer shop and connect the two PCs together (if they have network cards) then configure their network settings.

(Record what is in here already so you can put it back the way it was later)

Change it to

"Use the following IP address"

and configure

IP address 10.1.1.1 (On the old PC)

IP address 10.1.1.2 (On the new PC)

Subnet mask 255.0.0.0

default router leave blank

Now close it.

On the old PC, make sure file %26 Print sharing is configured (if it is Windows 98, in the network properties).

Create a new folder on it called "share"

Right-click on it, select Properties, and share it

Put all the files/folders you want to transfer over into it

Now, on the new PC, click

Start

Run

\\10.1.1.1\share

This will open up a window on the new computer which will be the share folder on the old PC, so you can copy the stuff into folders on the new PC.
