Do mac computers have alarm systems?

or can they be made to have them? like imac computers, when they're off. when you move them or unplug them, or move them out of range of the wireless router. just asking, i wanna use my brothers mac while hes away without him knowing. so is there any security systems out there that can be made that way?

There are systems to monitor use of a mac; MacMinder comes to mind. One way to check is to open /Applications/Utilities/Activity Monitor, and select "All Processes." Look through there for anything that sounds like a program to monitor use of the computer.

If you intend on starting up/shutting off the machine, there's not much you can do to prevent someone with the knowledge from checking system logs, short of finding and editing dozens of them. Most people won't do this, though.

Be sure to use the "Safari%26gt;Private Browsing" menu option in Safari, or whatever the equivalent in Internet Explorer or Firefox is, as that's the biggest tip-off that someone's been using a machine.

One way he can figure out if you used it is by viewing system logs. It'll show which user logged on and when they logged on.
Yes there is. The most basic is the history. But no one bothers to open this link anyway. I don't believe Macs come with programs that alert the owner that security has been compromized. Plus if there is a special program that monitors what other people are viewing and doing with the computer you have to disable it first. It is highly unlikely that there would be anything like that installed in your brother's Mac.
