How do u network two computers to one printer?computer protection

three common ways,

first if the printer itself is a network printer it will have an Ethernet port on it plug it into the router just like its another computer, and follow the instructions that came with it to install it, this should be done on both computers.

second get a print server router they work good, but often don't fully work for the operations like scanning because more then one computer is connected to it.

third set up home networking and share the printer from the computer that its plugged into, then install it on the other and it should work, but the primary computer needs to be on in order for the printer to be used. also home networking slows down windows something wicked, so i don't recommend it unless you cant use the other methods
get a printer router. Best Buy for like 50 bucks maybe less
on windows xp, go to printers and faxes option, then click the add printer, then next, the choose a network printer, or a printer attached to another computer... then just follow the instruction...

How do computers store Information on there hard drives?

Is the data electricity? Would an EMP attack erase all informatioon on hard drives in its blast radius?

I know alot about computers but just always thought about that but never asked.

Thanks!

Yes! Information is stored magnetically on the disks. I guess in retrospect it would depend on how close, and how strong the electromagneticpulse was to the computer. Just my 2cents!

Are ACER computers high quality?

The Acer brand of computers are appealing to me but I am unfamiliar with them so I want to make sure before I buy one. Im looking at laptops. Do they work well?

10 pts to whoever tells me the most, and the truth

Are ACER computers high quality?antivirus scan

Acer laptops come built with excellent specifications, the processor ram and video-card are all really good quality. The down side to Acer is that you have this incredible machine but then Acer decides to lessen the quality of the casing and connections. I've seen dozens of Acer laptops get returned due to faulty connections inside of the laptop and the cases being plain cheap. If your not going mobile a lot with this laptop and your super careful then go ahead and buy it, but if you need a strong durable laptop go Toshiba. Acers do run well and come with excellent software to help protect and run your system, I'm not saying Acer sucks or anything along those lines, i'm just telling you the truth about the way they built their machines.

Recommendations:

-Dell Inspiron 1520/1720

-Hp dv series

-Alienware

Help needed for networking 10 computers in a community centre?

Hi there

My name is Adam and i am currently doing a GAP year volunteering at a community centre in Liverpool which runs after-school clubs and other activities during the week. We have just recieved 10 desktop pc's from the local school and we are looking to connect each of them to an Internet connection in which the room the pc's are likely to be used in already has a telephone connection.

The computers are quite old as they use the following specs:

Pentium 3 Processor

64mb RAM

10Gb Hard-disk-drive

Windows 98 Operating System

What i would like to know is, what would be the most appropriate networking solution for these computers to be linked to the Internet, in which the room has an area of at least 16foot and also are there any organisations/charities that can provide grants to help cover costs for netowork and Internet setup.

Any help would be greatly appreciated

Windows 98 will work, but Windows XP would be easier to configure.

You NEED more memory - Have someone donate memory to you, or get it cheap off Ebay - You will need 512Mb MINIMUM, or else, these will run really slow

The hard disk size is fine - You will need to buy NETWORK cards. I am "assuming" the PC's have PCI slots, so you can buy PCI Ethernet cards. You will also need to buy a 12 port hub to plug all of the computers connections into. This is hrdwiring. You could also go wireless, but will still need to install network cards, and is more costly.

Is it OK to shut off all computers on a home network for several hours?

I recently set up DSL with 2 computers, and for security reasons, I prefer to turn off the computers at night before going to bed or on vacation. I know I could turn off the modem/router, but other computer users aren't into remembering this. Thanks.

Is it OK to shut off all computers on a home network for several hours?ariel

If security is the main reason you are turning your computer off, and you are turning your modem/router off then you don't need to power off your computers. Your main threats on a computer have to come from outside your computer. Like CDs, Floppys, Internet, etc. If you power off your router then nobody can "see" your home network. So, no you don't need to power off your computer for security reasons. If you have a good firewall, you wouldn't even have to turn off your modem/router.

But, if you are just trying to save power then turn 'em off.

Is it OK to shut off all computers on a home network for several hours?computers

turn them off if your not using them. why run the parts if you do not need to.
You shouldnt have to,you are more acepable to trigger a stored virus on your computer by turning it on and off constantly throughout the day i leave mine running days at a time untill it gets sluggish then i restart. But for security reasons go ahead turn off the modem or get better protection by mcafee such as firewall and internet type protection programs.
Why wouldn't you be able to?
All here says yes I say not if you or the other users turn the PC:s on and off several times each day.

Startup takes power and your HD:s dont like it...

So if its ok or not depends how often.

For just some hours: no.
Why waste the electricity... turn those computers off... the network will still be there when you turn it back on
yea bro
yes. of course it is okay.
ya
i usually turn mine off all the time i go to sleep, doesnt cost much, and saves elec. in a way

computers work with logic. There are human interface computers, like your home computer and laptop, like playstations, mobile phones, even chips built into your fridge and car. Then there are business computers, that you encounter everytime you use a cash machine, book an airline ticket....

computers solve logical problems, and make calculations with logic.
everything except wash your car. the term computer is so wide open it just can't be nailed down to one category...a pencil is a computer in that it can be used to calculate and compute.....a phone is a computer as it can be used to manipulate information across several different platforms.

A personal computer can't do anything, at least not with out some sort of human input...so to answer your question, a computer cannot "do" anything...it can only calculate and produce results based on the input.....what it can be used for is a better question and in that case, it can be used for a variety of things from information retrieval to communications across several languages....but at its core its really just a really powerful calculator, it just reads and writes 1's and 0's and translates that information into a result.

What did you do before computers?

I'm old enough to remember using a typewriter! as a photographer I spent days in a darkroom. As an engineer I spent years at a drafting table W/pencil/Pen... computers changed all that... so what did you do before Computers came about? ...What did you do that computes have changed how its done?...was it better the old way?

I have some really great memories of helping my dad develop photographs in his darkroom. He used to be a draftsman for Delaval (spelling?) Separator Company, before CAD.

I think that technology is great but it has taken away the element of artistry that used to be required to do these jobs.

Sometimes I think the old days were better.....

I personally did not have a job before computers.....maybe my generation would have a better work ethic if we did!

Hello; These laptops are fine for the average user! You can be bogged down, by using too many apps and features in vista... it's a resource hog! I downgraded my entry level laptop to XP, cuz I had a legal copy lying around... and it is much faster!

I think that's a good price, but check out www.tigerdirect.com, and don't be shy of getting a refurbished laptop... the older technology ram is cheaper, and xp pro or MCE is better than vista... for now. As a Canadian, I'm surprised you arent into Linux!

I don't know what the laws/rules are for Canadians buying from websites, and having PCs shipped from the US, but you might want to also look at Dell's auction page; www.dellauction.com, that bypasses ebay, and gets you directly to Dell's auction page. Again, I don't know what the rules are for buying across the border, so take these tips as they are.

Why do computers{windows} show the Blue Screen Of Death?

Why do computers show the Blue Screen of Death. I'm talking for Windows XP especially and any Windows operating system in general.

Is it a virus? Or an error problem. Tell me the reason why please.

Thanks.

Why do computers%26#123;windows%26#125; show the Blue Screen Of Death?best antivirus software

The Blue Screen of Death (BSOD, bluescreen, or stop error) is an error screen displayed by certain operating systems, most notably Microsoft Windows, after encountering a critical system error. Bluescreens can be caused by poorly-written device drivers, faulty memory, a corrupt Registry, or incompatible DLLs. Bluescreens have been present in all Windows-based operating systems since Windows 3.1; OS/2 and MS-DOS suffered the Black Screen of Death, and early builds of Windows Vista displayed the Red Screen of Death after a boot loader error.

Hope this helps !

Why do computers%26#123;windows%26#125; show the Blue Screen Of Death?firewall

BSOD is due to a conflict between your hardware drivers and/or operating system. Also, it may be caused by a malfunction of a hardware of your computer (i.e. video card, sound card, etc...), this is due to dust accumulating, olderness of the componentsd, etc...
When you're as big as Microsoft and have absolutely not competition, your don't need to spend a lot of time making sure your system is bug free. If Windows crashes to the point where it can no longer recover by reloading the offending files a DOS error message appears offering all kinds of totally useless information for the average user. Microsoft is trying to impress you that it cares, but we all know they couldn't care less. Why should they? You can't go to the computer store and purchase a better system. Some readers will say that's garbage, just load Linux instead. Well just go ahead and try. I doubt that any software on your hard disk will work, especially your graphics programs and games. So you have to live with the Blue Screen of death because after 12 years of trying, Microsoft still can't get Windows to do what it's expected to do. Don't get me wrong, Linux is fantastic, but the mainstream software developers won't produce programs for it. Until they do, Microsoft rules!
If you have deadstoped your computer it makes a dent in your harddrive which means that what is what you proberly have a dernt in your harddrive meaning that your computer will give you the blue screen like it did to me today
it's not a virus it's happen when the hardware components and the operating systems have conflicts.

Depending on your router setup, you may already have everything you need. If the router is configured as a DHCP server (auto obatin IPs) than take the IP of the computer you want to get files from and type it into the address bar of my computer in this format \\xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx this will open the other computer regardless of work group. make sure that you have file sharing turned on by right clicking the folder you want to share, go to sharing and enable it. if you have any more questions you can email me and i will explain it a little better.

Setting up a Lan Between 2-3 computers?

There's 3 computers in the house all running on xp pro, and there all linked to a router, at the moment only 2 computers that are linked to the network are set to file share. But, 2 days ago my mates brother came round and set everything up so i havnt a clue how to set it all up. I looked intomy net status and then properties, and theres all new things there like: "file and printer sharing for microsoft networks" and "NWlink" and "Qos Packet sheduler" etc...before it was just internet protocool, etc..i just need to connect 1 last computer to the network so that files can be shared and LAN games can happen..PLZ HELP!

To play games across the network, all you need is the TCP/IP protocol.

To share files between machines, you need "Client for Microsoft Networks" and "File and Printer Sharing for Microsoft Networks". On the new computer, you must set the same workgroup name as the other machines which are currently connected.

Why is it that display computers at various stores lag horribly on the demo videos?

I noticed this today when I went to Office Depot. Every single one of the laptops and desktops on display had the standard Vista demo video playing, and all of them, from the cheapest to the most expensive, had it lagging and very choppy. Now, most of these laptops can handle DVDs and high definition video, so why do they stutter on the stupid little Vista demo video? It seems like it would be bad for sales to have the display video performing so badly. This was also the case with the old XP computers as well.

I build my own computers so it doesn't really affect me, but it just seemed interesting.

So, can anyone tell me why this is true at every store I happen to be in? Just curious...

Why is it that display computers at various stores lag horribly on the demo videos?computer security

The problem is RAM memory.

Often these computers are rarely restarted, so the RAM memory--regardless of how much the computer has installed--becomes committed. Thus, all store computers will lag.

Ask a store clerk to restart the computer for better performance.

Want to hook up 2 computers?downloads

Let's cover what you need to get Internet access to more than one computer at home, via wireless LAN (local area network).

The concept is the same for WIRED networks. Add Cat5e Ethernet cables and Network Interface Cards (NICs), instead of wireless adapters to each computer. You can use a wired router instead of a wireless router if you plan on being wired only. Treat an Xbox 360 just like any other computer. Xbox 360 needs a wireless adapter too.

1. You order or use your existing Cable, DSL, FiOS, Satellite, or Tin Can Internet access, doesn鈥檛 matter what brand of access you have or where you are located geographically in the world. An Ethernet TCP/IP based LAN is the same in China as it is in Germany.

2. Your Internet Service Provider sets up your Internet access and typically either rents or sells you a network bridge. They often refer to this as a 鈥渕odem鈥? Actually a complete misnomer since the device does NOT MOdulate or DEModulate.

Prices for residential 鈥淗igh Speed鈥?Internet access vary from approximately $19 per month for low end DSL to $200 per month for the fastest FiOS option in the United States. This varies based on bandwidth, location, and provider.

Computers are using in libraries as databases. The librarian scans the book, the computer searches for it and lets the librarian know that it has been either borrowed, returned or overdue buy however many days. Schools used computers for data entry, to keep a record of students and staff... so for example, a teacher goes to write a report, it is done electronically and they can see the students face to write the report and as i sadi before, they can delete their mistakes without starting again.

they need to be set to private instead of public in control panel
Are any running Windows Vista? They have a problem seeing other computers running XP. Is file sharing turned on for the all the computers in the workgroup?
A computer must be set to "public" for other computers on the same network. A way to see all the connected computers is to go to http://home (No .com). There you will find a summary of your network and all the devices connected. I would advise you to not change any of the settings that you can there because it may mess up you network.
The computers must have the same workgroup name to see each other. The Windows Firewall or any other firewall that you use must allow file and print sharing as well. When this is done, you will see all the computers and see each other's resources.
check to make sure that your computer is on the same workgroup.

Why do computers grow slower with time?

Especially Dell's... Slowdown despite constant maintenance with adaware, spybot, security task manager, defrag.

I fear a conspiracy by Dell and other manufacturers to force people to buy replacement computers as current PCs become unuseable.

Why do computers grow slower with time?free antivirus download

A combination of more complex programs installed, messy installations in the windows registry, less efficient memory allocation, and more start-up programs. Improper shutdown can complicate/corrupt the registry, or damage the hard drive (bye bye to all of your important files).

Increase RAM, clean the registry, avoid free programs which tend to really mess up your registry, stop programs from running in the background, remove programs from the automatic start-up directory, and shutdown Windows properly every time.

Why do computers grow slower with time?internet security

The best thing to do is to back everythink up you want to keep and reinstall windows with the recovery disk. Your registry is filled with to much junk. Most computer geeks do a reformat and reinstall at least once a year.
I think they might just get a little older and worn down as it grows older, but I also think that the new fast computers make the old ones look slow also.
computers get slower because with time you put more and more programs in it and that slows it down
I was recently doing alot of research on this and it's because of all the changes made once you start using it. You would be surprised what is hiding in your computer. Check out CCleaner. I just did it and freed up over 600 MB by getting of rid hundreds of things I dont need or use.
For one over time the programs are getting more complex thus more calculations, also the more programs you add to the system the slower it will get.-- that's just been my experience
I doubt that Dell and the other big brand name PC makers have a conspiracy in this regard (In other ways, likely, but not this way.) ;)

I take it that both computers can connect wirelessly to the internet at the same time with no problems - right ? If not, you must first fix this.

Then, on the computer with the printer, right click on the printer - go to the "sharing" menu item and share the printer.

On the other PC, go to the printers, add a new printer - and select "a network printer", and follow the steps.

Voila.
On the computer that is physically connect to printer go to control panel %26gt; printers and faxes %26gt; right click on the printer icon and click on "sharing". Click the option to "share this printer" and okay through the rest.

Go to the other computer on your network and go into control panel%26gt; printers and faxs and click "add printer" icon and choose the network printer action and then go through setup process...done.

On the user interface side, computers are now able to "tell" the owner when there are problems arising, such as when oil levels are low or when the oil needs to be changed, and lastly programs such as Onstar are able to remotely enable ro disable nad recover the vehicle.
the entire car is run by computers. ex: fuel injectors, ems, thermostat

if you sign on the same account for both computers then it won't work.
If your computers are both connected to a network high speed connection, and you have two different screen names, then it shouldn't be a problem signing on twice.

Connecting 2 computers via wireless adapters?

Ad-Hoc

Also referred to as an 鈥渦nmanaged鈥?or 鈥減eer to peer鈥?wireless network 鈥?it consists of each device connecting directly to each other. This will allow someone sitting outside in the garden with a laptop to communicate with his desktop computer in the house and access the Internet.

To complete the network and provide connectivity to the Internet, Internet Connection Sharing (ICS) will be enabled on the host.

Example "laptop to laptop" or "laptop to PDA"

Hi. You will need a wireless access point (built in to some routers such as the Linksys WRT54G) and a wireless connection for each computer, which you already have. There may be a way to go right from machine to machine but I do not have that info.

Outlook 2003 crashes on different computers at same time using Yahoo email?

My outlook 2003 crashes about every 6 months. I get an error message that says that it has "encountered a problem and needs to close". I have figured out how to get around the problem by creating a new profile each time, but I would like to know what is causing this. I have run outlook in safe mode, and I get the same message, so I do not believe it is a plug in of any sort. I have also run the outlook repair wizard, and this also does no good.

The other strange thing is that it happened to all 3 of my family's computers at the same time, including one that was accessing the email out of state. We all run virus software and are cautious about potential malware, etc. I also have a brand new computer, that I have not installed anything onto it other than itunes and avg antivirus, and both of these were done several months ago with no problems.

Our email server is a pop account via yahoo/sbc.

Anyone have any suggestions or know how to fix this?

Thanks

Do mac computers have alarm systems?

or can they be made to have them? like imac computers, when they're off. when you move them or unplug them, or move them out of range of the wireless router. just asking, i wanna use my brothers mac while hes away without him knowing. so is there any security systems out there that can be made that way?

Do mac computers have alarm systems?hp

There are systems to monitor use of a mac; MacMinder comes to mind. One way to check is to open /Applications/Utilities/Activity Monitor, and select "All Processes." Look through there for anything that sounds like a program to monitor use of the computer.

If you intend on starting up/shutting off the machine, there's not much you can do to prevent someone with the knowledge from checking system logs, short of finding and editing dozens of them. Most people won't do this, though.

Be sure to use the "Safari%26gt;Private Browsing" menu option in Safari, or whatever the equivalent in Internet Explorer or Firefox is, as that's the biggest tip-off that someone's been using a machine.

Do mac computers have alarm systems?mcaffee

One way he can figure out if you used it is by viewing system logs. It'll show which user logged on and when they logged on.
Yes there is. The most basic is the history. But no one bothers to open this link anyway. I don't believe Macs come with programs that alert the owner that security has been compromized. Plus if there is a special program that monitors what other people are viewing and doing with the computer you have to disable it first. It is highly unlikely that there would be anything like that installed in your brother's Mac.

I need a career in computers?

i love computers but i dont know which career i should go for.

i want a job where you fix computer probelms like viruses and basic windows errors.

i have a %74 average and im in grade 11.

and also which school should i go to?(college or university)

I need a career in computers?husqvarna

if you want to fix computers, then a career in tech support would be good. You could get a diploma or degree in 'information technology'. I cant recommend any schools, cos i can tell by the fact u say 'grade 11', we live in diff countries :-)

but with tech support usually u start of as level 1 tech support, perhaps troubleshooting over the phone, then with more experience u can move level2/3 tech support where u no longer have to troubleshoot over the phone.

Also u could help family and friends with their pc problems for experience, and even advertise ur service in a local paper and charge a fee whenur good at what u do.

I need a career in computers?microsoft office

You don't need a degree to fix relatively simple problems like those; experience alone will suffice (many elementary school kids can do such!).

However, you won't make much of a living, and, certainly, not have a good paying job, if that's all you can do!

Any good tech school or college will work, but I'm a little concerned about your grades. A 74 average doesn't cut it in virtually any "white collar" business requiring a college degree (BTW, a 74 average won't cut it for most colleges, either!). Consider going to a 2-year, liberal arts, community college, which offers certificate programs in computer repair and the like. With that under your belt, you should be able to get into any bachelorate or tech program for a computer major; you could also use it to find a half-way decent job.

Regardless, you shouldn't set your sights so low. Improve your grades while you can, and reach for the stars, not the ant hills! ;)

Do dell computers discontinue their?

I was going to be buying a dell xps400 and now when i go to look for it, it's not there. So now they are featureing a xps410 , but it's another $100 dollars. So my question is: Do dell computers go on sale around christmas?

Do dell computers discontinue their?internet security 2006

Dell computers go on sale 3 days before a quarter end, so that they can jack their sales - so end of September, see lots of Dell sales - so they can report good quarterly earnings.

Do dell computers discontinue their?microsoft

Don't buy a Dell just because of the name. Take the specs of the computer you wish to buy to a local custom pc seller and i'm sure they can make a computer with the same features or better for less.
If they do, probably not by much, because Dell tries to make its regular prices as low as possible; that is their edge in the market.
I use www.fatwallet.com to see what the latest sales and great deals are.
I don't know about Christmas sales, but keep an eye on http://www.gotapex.com. They have offer big coupon codes for Dell products daily.

How many computers can I sync one iPod with?

I am considering buying an iPod, but I have music collections on 3 different computers that I frequently use. Could I sync my iPod to all 3, or would I have to pick just one?

How many computers can I sync one iPod with?internet security software

Yeah you can Luke, but you will have to drag the songs on yourself. Make sure you click ' 鉂?manually manage' when you connect it to iTunes and then you can connect to as many computers as you like and drag and drop the songs onto your iPod.

How many computers can I sync one iPod with?moto guzzi

You would have to pick just one. Though, you can put the iPod into disk mode and put all the songs from the two other computers on it to transfer onto your main computer so that you do not have to sync it individually.
Unfortunantly you have to pick just one because if you sync one computer then another you will only get the stuff from the second computer, which is anoying. each time you sync it deletes every thing from your ipod that is not on the computer your Syncing from.

Hope i helped.

You should ask your local council if they have an electronic waste recycling scheme as old computers are full of toxic chemicals and should not go to landfill. Good luck!
You can sell them in the cost of scrap to a scraper lolzz, it is much better then you wants to throw them or dig them inside the land.

I have 2 computers, only 1 has internet?

hi,

i have 2 computers in my room but only 1 has internet connection, if i use a usb cable to connect the 2 pcs together and do internet config on pc without internet will the pc be able to have internet by just networking the 2 pcs together with a usb cable? i heard u can but want other opinions

I have 2 computers, only 1 has internet?vista

all you need is a router or call you internet provider and ask for wireless ... you can keep LAN for one PC and have wireless for the other one ... but if you get a router, make sure the firewall is con fig with the servs you already have, I work for TWC and I'm in tech support, you'll be surprised how many call we get a day just because of that reason alone

I have 2 computers, only 1 has internet?antispyware

You need to buy whats called...a router

look into it.
If the router is full, get a bigger one.more ports on it.
connect the two pcs via network caple or usb..then go to network connection on control panel (on the pc that don't have internet) and create new connection from the options chose setup small home network...then chose option connect to internet through another computer...read the rest of steps its easly
First I think your computer is plugged into a wall jack. With SBC, you get a modem. Then the modem plugs into your computer. With a router, like a Netgear Router, you can create a wireless connection between your two computers. If your second computer is a laptop, then go to Internet connections and there should be a list of all the wireless connections in the area around you. If it is a Desktop, they might come with wireless built in. But if it doesn't, then you have to buy a USB Flash Drive looking thing. It acts like a wireless card. From that USB, you can connect to your router. Routers can sometimes be expensive depending if you want it to be a fast connection or the connection to go far away. If you live in a house or apartment, i suggest you get a cheap one because you will leave the computer in the building. I have the website for Netgear. Hope I have been of assistance
You need a cross-over network cable for this, or a router to connect both machines directly to the internet. The router is easier and faster.
The router is full? maybe other people (neighbors) are using your router without your knowledge. Try setting up a password for your router. Then maybe it won't be full and the computer without internet can use it.

How did certain computers get there names?

How did macontosh and windows, and other computers get there names? How did they start too.

How did certain computers get there names?windows

Macintosh got it's name because the company that created it is called Apple. A macintosh is a variety of apple. Apple was founded in 1976 by Steve Jobs and Steve Wozniak. They had tremendous initial success with the Apple I and the Apple II (especially the Apple IIe, which was widely used in education). In 1984 they released the original Macintosh, an affordable system with a GUI that was geared towards regular people, not just businesses and scientists.

Windows got it's name because the original version was a GUI (Graphical User Interface) for DOS, a command line system. Because they were giving DOS a graphical interface, it was called Windows.

Linux got it's name because it is based on UNIX, and was created by Linus Torvalds. Linus + UNIX = Linux

As for hardware, Dell is named after its founder, Michael Dell.

IBM stands for International Business Machines.

HP stands for Hewlett-Packard, and is named after founders William Hewlett and David Packard.

There are many others. Ask about specific ones if you want more info.

To tell the truth, I don't believe that you have very much to worry about. I've heard that there are about three viruses (exaggeration, I don't know how many, ;) ) out there that affect Macs, and the rest are on Windows, so I would go ahead with it. Macs are pretty secure.

I have a Question about limewire and Macintosh computers....Please help me, I really need to know?antivirus protection

Don't worry at all Macs are safe most hackers don't try and make viruses for Mac OS they try and Hack Windows and the ones who do hack macs are not going to create much dammage
MAC run a "CLOSED ARCHITECTURE SYSTEM" which means they don't get Virus that affect the system. I've always had a mac, and had people EMAIL me virus's, sniffers, progs, etc just to test it. Never had any issues. the lil progies just don't work on MAC. I challenged some moron to show me one documented case of a MAC having a virus, because he said i was spreading false information. There are no virus for macs. Not really a market for them.

A Career in Computers?

What is the easiest to learn, best paying field to learn in computers?

A Career in Computers?agv

It's more a matter of how good you are in a given field and how much experience you have, rather than which field in particular. The very most senior-level programmers typically earn 120k+, whereas entry-level programmers in the same language might only earn 45.

Same with networking. Senior systems administrators for large networks can earn 120-150k+, while IT support just starting out as technicians only earn 40-50.

The examples go on and on. The main point to take away is that "computers" is not a get-rich-quick industry, despite what the media may have you believe. It works very much the same as every other career - the more time and experience you accrue, the more opportunities and higher pay you will receive.

As far as easy to learn - that depends on what you enjoy. If you like something and it's interesting to you, it will be easy to learn. If not, it will be very difficult to learn. Take some entry level courses on programming, networking, hardware and see what you enjoy the most.

A Career in Computers?antivirus software

Most, if you have the aptitude, are easy to learn. However, when it comes to best paying - HA! All those jobs are being outsourced at a ridiculously fast pace! Be careful and maybe look elsewhere.
Easiest I think is networking if your hands on person and always need to be doing something if your patient then programming would be your best bet either one pays well it all depends on the company size and the education you have going into both. You can make good money in either fields depending on how much education you receive...........I wouldn't go for money it doesn't make you happy go for what you love either being hands on with computers doing networking and repairs or setting up software and writing with programming
its between security and networking, but to get the major bucks takes years of learn like cisco, doing ccna, ccne. and the same for secuirty, eg u will need to know firewalls, virus programs backwards, including voip, sql etc.

Myspace dose not belong on school computers?

Myspace dose not belong on school computers?anti virus scan

i agree

in fact there is a lot that the kids using proxys dont know - when you use a proxy site to view any site that you have to log into, the owner of the proxy site then has your login information which they can then use to hack your profile, or sell to spammers

this is especially a problem for people who have 9283479274 friends, as spammers LOVE to steal those profiles

so remember kids, if you use a proxy to get on myspace, you better not be surprised when someone starts posting bulletins using your account, or starts spreading spam in your friends' comments, or if your account gets deleted

you asked for it by giving your login information to the proxy site

Myspace dose not belong on school computers?ariel

i agree %100

I SAY MYSPACE DOES NOT BELONG ON SCHOOL COMPUTERS BECAUSE SCHOOL IS A PLACE FOR KIDS TO LEARN AND TO GET AN EDUCATION SO THEY WILL BE ABLE TO GET A JOB AND NOT BE DUMB, I EVEN SAY IF KIDS ARE ON MYSPACE AT HOME "DID THEY DO THERE HOMEWORK AND HELP THEIR PARENTS OUT AND ALSO IF THEY ARE ON MYSPACE WHAT ARE THEY UP TO?!!" KIDS SHOULD LEARN RESPONSIBILTY AND THE DEFERENCE BETWEEN RIGHT AND WRONG AND THEY SHOULD LEARN RESPECT.
disagree. myspace is myspace. doesn't matter where.

Anyone experienced with computers can someone tell me how to buy a laptop in Australia?antivirus download

I you can afford a iMac you should get one. They are very stable and Apple supports their products for a long time and has great customer service. If you get a Mac you could order one off Apples online store. However, you should wait a week because apple is getting ready to refit their Macbook with a faster processor and bigger hard drive. If you are getting a MacPro, then order one whenever you are ready as these were updated a while ago.

http://store.apple.com/au

If an Apple is not an option I would recommend buying an HP or Sony. Look for atleast 2-3 gigs of RAM and 250 - 350 gig Hard drive, a web cam, Windows Vista Home Premium and a processor around 2 ghz with a cd rad/ rewrite and dvd read/ rewrite drive. These are all fairly common features right now and should not cost that much. HP includes all these features in an 800-1000 USD price range. I would advise going to purchase one in-store and at a nationally known electronics store.

How harmful are computers, portable phones, tv's, power tools, etc.?

I read something in Kevin Trudeau's book about computers being harmful - can anyone tell me more specifically what the risks are?

How harmful are computers, portable phones, tv's, power tools, etc.?antivirus programs

Yes they are harmful to the human body. I have all of trudeau's books so I am familiar with him, and I agree with him. Cell phones can hard boil an egg in one hour, think what it will do to the brain. The main risk is cellular degeneration which with prolonged exposer will lead to disease. If exposed long enough the DNA will be permanently damaged, that is defenently not good. The only reason that computers are harmful is because they use an electro magnet device to power the screen, which emits the radiation. You want to at least stay around two feet from the screen to the body, or a full arm length. Laptops make you sit closer then tower PC's. You can buy computer monitors that emit no radiation, they are expensive but worth it. NASA even uses non EMR monitors, because they understand that radiation reduces cognitive abilities.

The cell phone companies have spent over one hundred million dollars on research on radiation shielding technology, so when people say it doesn't harm the body then why on earth would they spend so much money researching EMF shielding technology. There are products that help block electromagnetic radiation, I own a couple of them and its on myself all day long, I even keep them on my headboard to protect me while i am sleeping. You should research Dr. George Carlo, the cell phone companies hired him to disprove that cell phones were harmless, but his research overwhelmingly proved that they were very harmful to the body. When the cell phone companies found out they offered him a one million dollars a year salary to keep him quiet, he refused, he figured people's lives were more important then money. He has a very informative web site, I will leave a link to it.

Where are alienware computers built?

Topic says ti all. Does anyone know where they build Alienware PCs after you have ordered them? I know their headquarters are in Miami, FL, is that where they build the computers?

As far as I can tell they are apparently also in Ontario Canada in Toronto, along with the Miami, location. So perhaps they build them in both locations.

At yo momma's house.
Duh. They are built on the planet Xerroz by "Aliens"! :-P

Actually, Alienware computers are assembled here in the USA with parts and components mostly from China. Hope that answers your question.

From what I understand, the assembly plant is in North Carolina.

Also remember that Dell bought Alienware out in 2006, however Alienware still functions independently but is owned and overlooked by Dell.

What are good brands for desktop computers and/or laptops?

What are some top brands for desktop computers/laptops, and which is better for music, and high performance? A laptop or a computer?

What are good brands for desktop computers and/or laptops?ariel

I run only HP. I've delt with Dell, Gateway, Compact, and Toshibia's, and in my personal opinion, the HP is the best performance for the price. I tend to run the Walmart standard systems and just upgrade video card, and ram as needed.

What are good brands for desktop computers and/or laptops?computers

they both can be the same for what you're getting one for... your next question would be do you want to be mobile with it or not. what i think you will want is def. a mac book pro. nothing is better. and if you like windows you can run both leopard and xp or vista on the same laptop or desk top.. but for durability and mobility you'll def. want to look into the 17 or 15 screen mac book pro. you won't be disappointed!!! happy shopping!
alienware
A desktop will always be superior to a laptop in terms of performance and price. It is also very cheap to fix, when you eventually damage your laptop. Best brand names are: Toshiba, HP, and maybe Dell. Note that most laptops can be consumer (Cheaper) or business brands. The business brands are usually more rugged and worth the extra money for durability.
a laptop is a computer. You probably mean a laptop or a desktop. Generally they are about the same. Difference is that Laptops are mobile, you can move them around, but they are harder to upgrade.

How come plane computers never crash?

Thank God they don't, obviously, but like Lee Evans said 'You can't reboot those f***ers up there y'know!'

So how come the on-board computers always stay reliable and manage to get us safely from one destination to another? No Blue screen of death or anything? I don't get it.

they don't always work properly, It's just that if there is even a slight suggestion of a problem they make you wait until it has been fixed or they transfer you too another plane.

Been there 4 hours while they tried to fix it and another hour moving aeroplane.
They most likely do, but they will not tell us?
They don't. Planes crash and cause can sometimes be the failure of the on board instrumentation, fly by wire technology and computers.
they dont use windows.

problem solved.
where did u get the info that they never crash? are u an omnipotent force that knows all? they could quite well have crashed in the past. For all we know some plane crashed may have been caused by that....its not as if you have watched all the news 24/7 for the last 50 yrs to know? that could have already happened in the 80s for example, and how would you know any different?

seriously, realise ur limitations in the power of observation before u assume.....

Internet Connection Sharing - Is it more computers the more slower?

I'm considering in getting a laptop and would have one laptop and one computer in my house.

I was wondering if the more computers/laptops there are the slower the internet connnection is?

Internet Connection Sharing - Is it more computers the more slower?avast

in general, yes. but with two computers you will only notice a difference if one of them is downloading a large file such as a movie!

Internet Connection Sharing - Is it more computers the more slower?ducati

Yes, as all computers are sharing the bandwidth you get from your internet service provider. Unless it's a dial up at 56k, you probably won't notice with just 2 computers. It will work fine.
What you say is very true, but this also dependent upon the server you are connecting that transmits the data to your computer, too. Two computer will not be a big concern at all with high speed Internet connection. You may experience some short slower transmission, but in general, the speed won't be too bad.
Yeah i have 2 computre and a laptop, my dad uses the computer, we have a VOiP phone i use my laptop, it lags everything! Bandwidth is a big problem, contact ur ISP and ask him for a boost or more bandwidth.
Your Internet connection has a limited amount of bandwidth, so for each computer that is accessing the connection, the slower the connection is goign to seem. Depending on the type of connection that you have, though, 3 machines should not create that much of a slow down, you might see slow down if you were trying to watch or play streaming video or music or download things all at once, but for normal browsing, I wouldnt think it would be a problem.

How to share contacts between two computers, one running with Vista, the other with XP?

I am looking for a free method to share the contacts between the two computers. I have a contact list in my Vista computer but after I put it on a network folder, the Windows XP cannot read that format file. I wonder if there is a way that Windows XP can read the .CONTACT file created by the Vista.

How to share contacts between two computers, one running with Vista, the other with XP?best antivirus software

Since Vista is the later OS, it's format may not be understood by XP. If the file was created on XP you might stand more chance, but with Microsoft there are no guarantees. Alternatively you could create a small database on one machine and make this available to the other.

Why gaming consoles are made when computers are capable?

Computers that meet minimum requirements for games are able to do what gaming consoles do, and a lot more.

Why do consumers continue to purchase expensive gaming console hardware knowing that it is just another (redundant) computer in disguise?

Why gaming consoles are made when computers are capable?bmw

computers get viruses, they slow down when you download so many games, they always need to be updated and to buy a newer computer to keep up with the better games

Why gaming consoles are made when computers are capable?free adware remover

To use a pc you need at least an functioning brain - you know, for install, configuring etc.

Any dimwit can plug a cartridge or insert a disk - much bigger market.
Game Consoles are specifically designed to be able to play a specific se of games, and companies sell gaming consoles to get more money.
Its for those people who can't keep up with the computer hardware and such. Video card and memory upgrades can really burn a hole in your pocket. So they buy a gaming console knowing that it will be able to play whatever game comes out without much issues.
You get a different gaming experience on a console than you do on a computer. Also, some games are played better on some systems than others.

Why are humans so much better translators than Computers?

As as a computer can beat any person in mathmatics, it doesn't stand a chance as far as translation goes.

A normal human bilingual is several orders smarter in this respect than computers are.

Does it have something to do with Computers can think at Superhuman speeds, but don't have the ability to reason.

Why are humans so much better translators than Computers?cafe racer

Computers are programed to do a specified formula which, unless guided it will not try to research it, while the computers can be more efficient than humans, humans are still smarter and are not programmed! Humans might be slower but life experience makes them more sophisticated and smarter!

Why are humans so much better translators than Computers?free anti virus

language is very dependent on the context of the words and computers cant deal with that and with decisions
Humans are better at translations because they understand the intricacies of language, unlike computers that can only translate exact words. For the same reasons computers are better at math, because math is absolute.
Humans have been around much longer than computers.
Sentences in different languages don't have the same structure, a computer is currently unable to re-order the words correctly.
computers have neither head nor heart
You have to remember: Without humans, what use is a computer? Nothing.
i think nothing is smarter than a computer.
maybe cos computers are smart, but they have no imagination. They translate too litteraly.
Computers can do a lot of things, but they do not have the capacity for emotions such as: empathy, compassion, sadness, happy, or feel excitement. A human can convey those emotions in any language.

What's the use for computers?

The problem of understanding (and design):

What do computers do? What can you do with computers? What can you not do with them?

What's the use for computers?internet security

They can be used to prepare French Fries. In rainy days they can be used as umbrellas. I also have seen computers being used as water containers (tanks)

What's the use for computers?network security

Games and information. And computers can only do what you tell them to do.

They can't cook, clean house or bathe for you. They can't go to work for you when you call in sick. They can't feed your dog or drive a car or perform brain surgery on your llama.
they perform calculations faster than a human. You cannot calculate big math equations without them Some of these calculations help in the fight against cancer and other diseases. Tracks economic conditions.
That's a very simple question with a complex answer.

Computers today are commodities, items needed to make our life more comfortable. We need them at work, at home, at school, we need them on a daily basis for a variety of reasons.

You ought to see them not as the PC/Mac units, but also at your computer's car, at your mobile phone, at the red/green light you see everyday which is controlled by a computer and for much more things.

How do computers always know what the correct time is?

I've been wondering, how do computers, regardless of how long they're turned off, always know the correct time?

How do computers always know what the correct time is?internet

A battery holds up the CMOS clock and memory circuits on your motherboard. If you unplugged your computer and set it in the corner for a few years, the battery would go dead, and the clock would be WAY OFF.

But Windows XP's time of day clock depends on the proper Time Zone setting, and an occasional internet connection to look up the correct time, and correct the time. Previous systems might eventually wander off.

Good luck and Happy Computing!

How do computers always know what the correct time is?network

There is a battery on the motherboard inside the tower (like a watch battery) that keeps the time.
PCs have an internal clock, kept alive with the little bios battery, and looks like a watch battery. When you say correct, I have to laugh as most PCs lose a few minutes every month. I finally synched my PC to an atomic clock, software available free on the net.
two answers--- 1: cmos battery on the mobo and 2: atomic clock synchronization
computers have a small battery on the mainboard that keeps the clock running. The tiny current draw means the batteries will last for years without failing
they probably get the time from the net or they have a internal clock that can get charged when you turn on your computer.
CMOS (backup) battery. Keeps BIOS going even when the computer is turned off. All it has to do is count seconds/minutes/hours etc. Similar to how a graphing calculator remembers everything even after you turn the calculator off.
I think, even when they're turned off, there's a battery inside that keeps essential things going, the clock among others
Computers have a separate battery to keep track of time. It looks somewhat like battery that comes out of a watch, but bigger.

If that battery goes, you will not have the right time
All computers, whether they are desktops or laptops, have tiny watch batteries on their motherboards. This battery keeps alive certain areas of memory, including the clock. This is why the computer can always keep track of time, even if its unplugged.

On top of that, all modern computers with an Internet connection actually go online periodically and synchronize their clocks with the Atomic Clock in Colorado, which is considered the "official time" for the USA.
computers know the correct time because u have 2 set the time

How do i let my computers"comunicate" with eachother?

i have a network. basically my desktop is conected by ethernet and my laptop is conected by the wireless lan. i have a very basic network which only shares internet. i have a lynsiks router. so how do i let my computers "communicate" with eachother? also i want to share files and pictures within my 2 computers.

How do i let my computers"comunicate" with eachother?ktm

1) Make sure the names are them same on Workgroup

-Control Panel, system, computer Name. Click 'Change', enter name=pc1 or pc2 , Workgroup must be the same on both comptuers.

2) Turn off all software firewalls for now. Windows, Zonealarm...etc.

3) OK. do not reboot right now.

4) Open windows explorer, and pick your directory you want to share. Right click on it, Sharing and Security, click Share this Folder, give it a name. When you're finished, it should have a little hand showing on the folder in Windows Explorer. Repeat on other computer.

5) when finished, reboot both computers...and voila! Check My Network Connections.

put on file sharing on the computer the files are on, share that folder, not its ip address and type it in the other computer.

open my computer and the it in the address bar with a back slash, it will search that ip address for shared folders and voila you should see it . ie \xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx there you go.

How can I connect 2 computers?

I have a desktop computer and a laptop.

someone told me that I can transfer data from my laptop to PC and from PC to laptop using LAN cable. So can someone please guide me to solve this problem.

i dont have internet running on both machines. so is there any other way also to connect my 2 computers without using internet or bluetooth?

How can I connect 2 computers?live update

using an Ethernet crossover cable will do the trick (its a network cable like you'd use for X-Box...) you'll have to set up a network between them (see: Control Panel/My Network Places) you don't need the internet to connect the two...

other that that, simply using Flash memory to transfer things would be easy and fairly cheap... you can pick up a 1GB memory pen for less than 拢10 now (i think theres one in Tesco's...) it will hold more than you'd think and will probably be plug and play, meaning it would only take a few minutes to get the whole thing working...

Good luck, hope this has helped... =)

How can I connect 2 computers?norten

there might be a shared folder which both computers can access.
you can connect through Cross cable
Matter is to transfer data from your laptop to PC . By LAN cable very much possible. No problem. by pen drive also, you can transfer data from your laptop to PC.
if you have a broadband router you will see multiple cable slots(number of cable slots depend on the brand) then just buy how many cables you want connect the 2 cables 1 on your computer and one on your laptop
Ethernet crossover cables are most often used in home networks when connecting two ethernet computers without a hub. An Ethernet crossover cable has it's send and receive wires crossed. When using a hub or switch, this is automatically done for you.

Connect two computers?

I have 2 computers already connected to internet by dsl. How do i get them to connect to exchange and shared files. I tried the setting but fail. Can someone teach me step by step.

Both running wins xp Prof.

One pc using cable and the other a notebook on wifi to connect. Thank you.

Connect two computers?malware

First you set them to both be in the same network

1. right-click my computer %26gt; properties %26gt;computer name %26gt;change%26gt; "enter a workgourp name". Do this step for both computers and you'll probably have to restart.

2. Now right click on any folder(on your drive or desktop)%26gt;sharing and security %26gt; check share this folder on the network. If a wizard pops up just follow the instructions and complete the wizard. The very last step will ask you if you want to make a disc or something, just say no and finish.

3. Now go to the other computer go to my network places%26gt; and you should see the folder that you choose to share from the 1st computer. If you dont try clicking on view workgroup and then double clicking the name of the 1st computer. You can copy (or delete) files to the shared folder.

If you can't seem to find the computers in the workgroup, you might have a firewall blocking. Programs like norton 360, zonealarm, macafee, etc. are likely to block the sharing. You need to disable the firewall or allow permission.
