I need to network 3 computers ready to get broadband.?

1) 2 computers are XP and 1 is 98SE. Can I network them together - preferably wirelessly? And what protocol should I use? (I hope so - there's enough cable lying about as it is)

2) Will the 98SE computer then be able to access broadband which, I have heard, it wouldn't be able to independently?

3 Anybody got a good argument to use on the wife, who is sticky about wireless due to 'all this magnetism', which I think is a reference to e.m.r. from wireless installations?

4) Any recommendation as to the best b/b provider taking into account speed, costs, download limits and equipment provided?

5) Just how are download limits calculated? Is linking to a Website taking up download or is this purely file transfers like pictures, games and music?

6) As it is unlikely that a b/b provider would supply equipment for a network, any recommendations on a good router or hub, card or USB connection?

7) What exactly is the difference between a hub and a router?

An inexpensive wireless router will do the job. Typical ones have four ports for wired connections, as well as the wireless link; plan to have at least one machine on wired connection as you will need this to set the thing up. The 98SE machine may be preferable for this, as the older software should support ethernet but may not do wireless -- which involves extra encryption to be safe. Wired connections, which use twisted pairs, issue much less radiation than wireless ones, which obviously radiate to communicate. A router directs traffic to specific ports; a hub broadcasts to all.
