Clearing a computers hard drive?

Hi everyone, thanks in advance for your help!

We are moving at the end of Sept., selling one of our computers. Is there a safe way to totally clear the hard drive?

If I do clear it, do I need to reinstall the o/s?

I have an HP A405n (came from Future Shop in a package dealy...)

Thanks again and have a great day! :)

Hi dear, best of clearing of ur hardisk is "fdisk".u can find it with in a bootable cd .
if u hav the os cd insert it in the cd drive and select cleaning the drive b4 installin the os once again! and its done or try formattin usin dos mode!
I think you need to have the disk for install the windows operating system again and in that disk you can erase your dirve while installing the new operation system. Note your buyer may have some trouble if using windows. Your license is good only for you and not for anyone else. The person buying the computer may have to disconnect the automatic update system in the control pannel in order not to be blocked and get the blue star of death.
Get a program that performs a government wipe on it. Other than that, just take the drive with you.
It's called a Hard Drive Reformat and it will erase everything in your computer. And you will need to install the OS and everything. You need your system disk and have BIOS boot up to that disk by changing the order in which it boots up. Everything else should be straightforward, just follow the on-screen instructions and voila!
Use the steps given to format HD and reinstall windows, that shall take care of your problem.
